Dear artists*artists, all of you who work in the field of performing arts or audiovisual
Do you combine employment and self-employment (business) or do you want to work exclusively as a freelancer? Do you need a better understanding of copyright law or the economic context for your work? Keep up with changing legislation? Are you implementing (or planning to implement) your own projects and would you like to know better? Are you looking for ways to better manage your time, manage the risks associated with projects and know how to promote them successfully?
The Methodical Assistance Centre of the Theatre Faculty of JAMU has prepared a lifelong learning course “Standing on Your Own Feet” where you can learn all this!
For your participation in the course, you will receive a certificate, the so-called microcredentials, which you can use to demonstrate the knowledge and skills you have acquired during the course. The course is graded with ECTS credits, so the certificate is internationally valid. You will therefore be able to demonstrate your knowledge and skills not only in the Czech Republic but also on the international labour market.
The project was funded by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports and the National Recovery Plan.
Important information
The course will take place in the form of a so-called. blended learning, i.e. a combination of e-learning and face-to-face teaching. First, participants use the JAMU information system (IS JAMU) and learn from an interactive curriculum, including the processing of independent tasks (January-May/June), to to which they will receive feedback from the lecturers. Nat the end of the course there will be a joint attendance meeting between the participants and the tutorswhere they will have the opportunity to solve problems from their practice with the lecturers or further discuss the topics discussed, ale will have also have the opportunity to network and network.
The whole course will last 6 months, from January to June. Thanks to the fact that it is “blended” you can study from the interactive curriculum whenever it suits you! At the end of the course, in June., there will be a week-long (i.e. seven days) meeting where you will meet the other participants, the lecturers and representatives of the course partner – Nová sieci, z. s. One day will be dedicated to feedback and evaluation.
Self-study

240 hours of self-study and preparation over 24 weeks (roughly 10 hours per week, but it depends on you)

plus about 50-75 hours of work on independent tasks (about 25 of them, each for 2-3 hours)
Weekly attendance meeting (17 – 23 June 2026)
- 42 hours full-time during one summer week (6 hours per day for 7 days)
In total, this equates to approximately 330 hours of work, which corresponds to 12 ECTS credits.
👉 In practice, this means that in addition to one intensive weekly block of lessons, you will have to allow regular time for self-study and homework – on average around 10-12 hours per week.

– knowledge related to self-employment in the arts, cultural and creative industries, particularly in the areas of financial management, income tax, value added tax, tax record keeping and other legal forms
4. In digital skills and marketing
– digital skills, safety in the digital world, communication tools, web development, content creation, social networks, paid advertising, professional networks and new trends.
5. In the field of OSH:
– knowledge of OSH legislation related to theatre operations and space, outdoor events or crowd management and how to apply the knowledge to your own practice.
Skills
Graduates are able to orient themselves in the terminology discussed, they are able to use it correctly and are able to apply the acquired knowledge in their own practice.
Eligibility
Graduates are able to:
– critically and independently study key and supplementary materials and sources on the topics discussed,
– independently work on the tasks assigned by the lecturers during the course,
– search for other relevant materials and sources related to the topics discussed.
MgA. Lucie Abou
- She is a graduate of production at the Theatre Faculty of JAMU, where she also taughta long term halfas an assistant professor. V She runs She is teaching economic and production subjectsnot only in the Studio of Theatre Production and Stage Technology, but also in other studios. She is also the guarantor of the CŽV course “Standing on your own feet”. It brings a practical perspective on economics in culture and the arts to the course and helps participants navigate finance, tax and entrepreneurship, which he considers part of sustainableé career pathsy in the creative sector. He draws on his experience in management, project and grant management in public (DF JAMU, Head of the Project Office JAMU) and private non-profit sector (CO2 kolektiv, z. s., Josef K. Foundation as a volunteer).
doc. MgA. Hana Průchová, Ph.D.
- Graduate of theatre production at the Theatre Faculty of JAMU in Brno. Teacher of project management and marketing at the Studio of Theatre Production and Stage Technology at the same. Lecturer of courses focused on fundraising and project management, with experience in teaching representatives of the non-profit and commercial sector. Fundraiser of cultural projects (e.g. the international jazz festival JAZZFESTBRNO or the festival of Ibero-American culture Ibérica), consultant in the field of subsidies and grants (e.g. the Summer Chamber Music Workshop Novoměstské Slunohraní, the concert series of the Janáček Quartet Music of Life). For five years, project manager and then head of the JAMU project office, specializing in planning and implementation of EU-funded projects. Evaluator of research projects of the Czech Technology Agency or the NAKI programme of the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic. Currently also Vice Dean for Development, Quality, Safety and Lifelong Learning at the Theatre Faculty of JAMU.
doc. MgA. Petra Vodičková, Ph.D.
- She teaches at the Theatre Faculty of JAMU. Thanks to a combination of her studies in stage technology and production and her many years of work at the Centre for Experimental Theatre as deputy director, she has a unique insight into the functioning of theatre operations from a technical, organisational and artistic point of view. The course will focus on the practical and legal aspects of safe operation of not only artistic but also non-profit and other creative projects.
Mgr. et MgA. Anna Soldánová
- She graduated from the Janáček Academy of Performing Arts in Brno, majoring in Theatre Management, and Masaryk University, majoring in Museology. Already during her studies she discovered that her heart beats for castles, and therefore she devoted most of her professional career to the marketing of memory institutions. She worked in museums and at the National Heritage Institute. In her practice she focuses not only on marketing, but also on the use of project management in operations and in the preparation of exhibition projects. She actively monitors how Czech museums and monuments use modern presentation tools and gradually build their place among the world’s institutions. He will contribute his experience in marketing to the course and help participants understand, how to effectively use digital tools and marketing strategies in the cultural and creative sector, how to create quality and attractive content for the web and social networks and how to increase the visibility and impact of their activities in the digital environment.
Mgr. Terezie Vojtíšková, Ph.D.
- has been a lawyer at the Janáček Academy of Performing Arts since 2021. She graduated from the Faculty of Law of Masaryk University, where she focused on intellectual property law, especially its copyright aspects, during her master’s studies. This fact is reflected in the topic of her master’s thesis, which was subsequently published as a book under the title Rates of remuneration collected by collective administrators. After her master’s studies, she pursued her doctoral studies at the same faculty, during which she participated in several professional projects and finally successfully defended her dissertation focusing on crimes against intellectual property rights and obtained her doctorate at the Department of Criminal Law. She gained practical experience both in the field of advocacy and at the university. Prior to her current position, she worked as a lawyer at the Centre for Technology Transfer at Masaryk University, where she focused on licensing aspects of commercialization of science and research results.
The “Standing on Your Own Two Feet” course is open to anyone who wants to develop their professional skills in culture and the arts – whether you are freelancing, preparing for your own projects, or looking for confidence for your future practice.
We especially welcome graduates of the Theatre Faculty of JAMU and DAMU, conservatories and higher vocational schools, for whom the course is a natural continuation of their studies.

The course costs CZK 20 000.
It includes more than 300 hours of study, so one hour costs roughly CZK 60.
Just the full-time instruction with JAMU experts costs less than CZK 500 per hour – which is less than the cost of regular individual training.
The price includes half a year of intensive training, access to the online curriculum, personal meetings with experienced lecturers and an internationally recognised micro-certificate.
There is a 20% discount for JAMU graduates.
You also do not have to pay for the course all at once, but split the payment into two parts – half when you enrol and the other half by the end of March 2026.
