Basic information
The Astorka Information, Education and Accommodation Centre serves primarily as a university dormitory for JAMU students. It is located right in the historical centre of Brno. In the summer months it transforms into the Astorka Summer Hotel, which serves as clean, safe and cheap accommodation for the public.
Astorka also houses the JAMU library, the JAMU publishing house and specialised classrooms for the JAMU music and theatre faculties.

Services of the IVU Centre
The dormitories have a total capacity of 150 beds. There are 42 triple rooms and 12 double rooms. Most of the rooms are designed as cells: every two rooms then have a common hallway with lockers and sanitary facilities (toilet, sink, shower).
Rooms have their own fridge and each floor has a kitchenette with a microwave and kettle. There are coffee, bagel and snack machines in the lobby. Wi-Fi is available throughout the dorms and the concierge desk is open 24 hours a day, including weekends.
The entire building is non-smoking.
Laundry and drying
Powerful Miele industrial washers and dryers are available in Astorka Residence Hall.
A room card is used to enter the laundry room in the basement. Whoever unlocks the door is responsible for ensuring that the laundry room is used for its intended purpose and is responsible for any damages.
Any malfunctions in the laundry room should be reported to the front desk or through the FixMate app.
Parking
Due to the location of the Astorka dormitories in the historical centre of Brno , it is not possible to park directly in front of the building.
The current occupancy of the parking houses can be found here.

For the month of October will be made in cash (according to paragraph 1 of the accommodation contract). From November onwards, payment will be made by direct debit only, therefore the accommodation provider is entitled to deduct payment at any time from the 8th of the month until the end of the month. During this period, the Guest undertakes to have sufficient funds in the account to settle the payment.
How does direct debit work?
- Once a month (between the 8th of the month and the end of the month), the college sends a direct debit order to the bank.
- After the transfer, the payments are assigned in the database to the respective students.
- If the payment of the track fee is not made, the track fee must be paid directly to the operating college in cash. The amount will be increased by CZK 100.
Establishment of payment by direct debit
- Enter your permission to make a direct debit from your account (or another payer’s account – e.g. your parents’ account) to the JAMU account (JAMU account number: 27-0493910247/0100).
- Set a monthly collection limit of at least twice the dormitory fee, ideally within seven days of signing the accommodation contract.
- Please make sure you have enough money in your account each month.
- If you change your account number, please notify the college.
- DO NOT SUBSCRIBE – the only payment option is payment by direct debit. No other methods of payment will be accepted.
Frequently asked questions
Why didn’t the dorm payment go through?
- Make sure you have enough money in your account.
- Then check with the operating college that your JAMU account number is entered correctly.
- If the direct debit still does not go through, contact your bank.
Any dormitory fees that are not collected will be paid by the student for that month in cash at the college office. The cash payment will be increased by CZK 100.
Is it possible to pay other than by direct debit?
Dormitory fees can only be paid by direct debit.
Can college fees be paid from the parents’ account?
Yes, dorm fees can be paid from any account that has been set up to authorize the debit to the dorm account.
What happens if there is no money in the account?
The student will be notified that the payment has not gone through and will pay the dormitory fee in cash at the college office. The cash payment will be increased by CZK 100. If the student fails to pay the dormitory fee on time, a penalty of CZK 500 will be added for late payment.
What amount and validity period should I specify for the direct debit consent?
We recommend setting a limit of twice the dormitory fee.
The period of validity is ideally unlimited.
I paid by direct debit last academic year. Do I need to renew my direct debit?
If you still have an active direct debit authorisation and the relevant validity period set, you do not need to enter a new one.
Can I pay by direct debit from a foreign account?
Can’t. You can only pay by direct debit from Czech accounts.
There is a kitchenette with a microwave and kettle on each floor of the Astorka. There are coffee, bagel and snack machines in the lobby.
JAMU students can also use the services of Masaryk University, for example the Canteen + Veggie Bar on Moravské náměstí.
The Dormitory Council is an elected and independent body representing the interests of the accommodated students, especially when dealing with the Principal or other accommodated students in the dormitory. It is elected from the students accommodated in the College for the academic year.
It has the right to be informed of any changes in the operation of the railway. On the other hand, he/she is obliged to inform the Director of the College of serious facts that have a negative impact on the living conditions of the residents of the College. The mission of the Dormitory Council is to discuss and give its opinion on documents submitted to it by the Director of the Dormitory.
Accommodated students can contact members of the Dormitory Council in person or use the Dormitory Council mailbox on the ground floor.
The College Council for the 2025/2026 academic year has not been elected.
