Long-term projects

The conference provides a place where different approaches to research in the field of theatre practice and theory can be contrasted. In the past, more than a hundred artists, researchers and PhD students from Europe, Africa, North and South America and Asia have participated in the meeting, presenting their research and discussing common methodological issues in front of an international audience in Brno.

SETKÁNÍ/ENCOUNTER is an international festival of theatre schools with more than twenty-five years of tradition. The uniqueness of the festival lies in the fact that the main organizers are students of the Theatre Faculty of the Janáček Academy of Performing Arts in Brno.

The idea of the festival itself was born out of the need of the founders of SETKÁNÍ/ENCOUNTER to meet other theatre professionals and students of theatre schools and to make Brno a centre of cultural events. This show becomes more prestigious every year, thanks to the rich participation of student companies from theatre schools from all over the world.

Theatrical artists from the Visegrad Four countries regularly come to Brno, and companies from South Korea, Colombia, the Philippines, the United States of America, Iran and many other countries have also visited the city.

The newly conceived International Conference “JAMUsica” continues the tradition of the successful symposia of this institution “Musica Nova” and “Musica Antiqua – Musica Nova”, which have been organized in various variations since 2005. Its current form responds to contemporary trends in the world of musical art and musicology.

The conference seeks to organically connect the reflection of these areas into a wide range of possible artistic or scientific approaches. We therefore welcome papers of a musicological nature as well as papers based on reflection on artistic creation (“Artistic research”).
