Step by step procedure

The application for study is submitted exclusively electronically via the JAMU Information System (IS JAMU). If you don’t already have an account, the system will prompt you to create one.

In the electronic application you must:

  • choose the type of study (bachelor / postgraduate / doctoral),
  • select a study programme and specialisation*,
  • fill in your personal and contact details,
  • indicate your educational qualifications.

If you are interested in applying for more than one study programme and specialisation, you must submit an application form including all attachments and fees for each study programme and specialisation separately!

The application also includes uploading the mandatory attachments, the extent of which varies according to the chosen field of study. The exact requirements are specified for each study programmes.

*) For the academic year 2026/2027 the specializations Musical Acting, Physical Theatre and Dance and Movement Theatre are not open.

After completing and submitting the application form, the admission fee must be paid.

Payment is made through the JAMU Business Centre and is 990,- CZK. The fee is non-refundable. Without payment of the fee, the application will not be included in the admission procedure.

Applicants from abroad pay the fee through the JAMU Business Centre either directly in Czech crowns or in foreign currency so that the resulting amount after deduction of all fees in foreign currency is the amount requested (i.e. 990,- CZK).

The application must be submitted no later than the deadline.

Applications are invited for the bachelor’s specialisations Drama Directing, Theatre Dramaturgy, Theatre and Education, Radio and Television Production and Screenwriting, Screenwriting until 30 November 2025.

Applications for the Master’s non-core specialisation in Drama Acting are accepted until 30 November 2025.

Applications for the Bachelor’s specialisations Theatre Production, Stage Management and Technology, Audiovisual Production and Theatre, Theatre and Education for the Deaf are open until28 February 2026.

For the Master’s follow-up specializations in Audiovisual Production and Theatre, Radio and Television Dramaturgy and Screenwriting, Stage Design, Theatre Dramaturgy, Drama Direction, Theatre Production, Theatre and Education and Theatre and Education for the Deaf, applications for study are submitted to 31 March 2026.

Applications for the Doctoral Programme in Dramatic Arts are accepted until 15 May 2026.

Once you have completed the formalities, you will be invited to sit the entrance exam. The dates and format of the exams are determined by specialisation. You will receive information about the exact date, place and requirements via IS JAMU.

The admission procedure to the Theatre Faculty of JAMU is usually two-round.

If the applicant cannot attend the entrance examination for serious reasons (especially health reasons), he/she must provide the reason for his/her excuse (in the case of health reasons, a medical certificate) no later than the beginning of the entrance examination (this can be sent by e-mail even if the day falls on a Saturday or Sunday, the applicant must provide the medical certificate immediately on the next working day).

After the admission test, additional medical certificates cannot be accepted and, in the context of the appeal procedure, health problems at the time of the admission test cannot be accepted as a reason for changing the decision not to admit the student.

If the applicant was unable to attend the entrance examination on the regular date for serious and documented reasons, especially health reasons, he/she may request an alternative date for the
examination within 3 days of the date on which the examination was to take place. The candidate is not entitled to an alternative date. If the dean grants the request, he/she will give the candidate an alternative date for the entrance examination; if the dean does not grant the request, he/she will give brief reasons. The candidate will be notified of the outcome of the request. There is no right of appeal against the notification.

After the entrance exams, you will receive the dean’s decision on whether or not you are admitted to study in the E-application application or by registered mail to your permanent address.

Accepted applicants will receive further instructions for enrolment. Unsuccessful candidates have the opportunity to consult the evaluation in accordance with the applicable regulations.

Conditions for the admission of foreigners/foreigners to study (except for applicants from the Slovak Republic)

When admitting foreigners/foreigners to study in the Bachelor’s and Continuing Master’s degree programmes, the dean must comply with the obligations arising from international treaties to which the Czech Republic is bound.

In the event that it is not an accredited study programme for foreigners in a foreign language, and the students – foreigners – will therefore study in the Czech language, i.e. under the same conditions as Czech students, they are obliged to pass a verification examination of their knowledge of the Czech language at the Department of Foreign Languages of the Faculty of Arts JAMU (the examination is charged CZK 3,000) and to submit a confirmation of passing the required examination in the Czech language according to the specified conditions no later than on the day of the entrance examination at the Faculty of Arts JAMU. Examinations of the corresponding level taken, for example, at Charles University (ÚJOP), Masaryk University (Cabinet of Czech for Foreigners), etc. may also be recognised,
The required level is C1 according to the SERR/CEFRL (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) for the following specialisations of study programmes. Stage Management and Technology, Theatre Production, Theatre and Education, Theatre and Education for the Deaf, Stage Design.

If you received your secondary education at a foreign university, you should provide a certificate of recognition of your foreign secondary education in the Czech Republic no later than the start of the academic year.

This doesn’t apply if you have completed higher education abroad in Slovakia, Hungary, Poland or Slovenia and the secondary education document you obtained is covered by an equivalence agreement with the Czech Republic. In this case, you will submit this foreign document directly (by entering it into the JAMU Information System, Annex 1.)

The invitation to the entrance examination and any further clarification of the requirements is uploaded to the E-application application at least 20 days before the examination.

Accommodation in university halls of residence is not available during the entrance exams, it is dealt with individually.

Documents for the talent test are available on the Faculty’s website in the Admissions section for individual study programmes by the application deadline. They are also distributed at the Meeting with Applicants and uploaded into the E-application to individual applicants together with the invitation to the entrance examination. Some degree programmes and specialisations do not deliberately publish specific tasks for the talent tests.

Examination committees for individual study programmes and specialisations are appointed by the Dean of the Faculty from among the teachers of the respective study programmes or invited experts. At the same time, he/she appoints the chairperson of each board, who guarantees the Dean: appropriate content quality of the entrance examination, respect for correct pedagogical and methodological principles and procedures; regular preparation and conduct of the entrance examination in accordance with the relevant laws and internal regulations, evaluation of the results of the individual rounds of the entrance examination in accordance with the point system immediately after the end of the respective round of the entrance examination, ensuring the right of individual candidates to appropriate treatment of personal data and information about the course of the entrance examination itself.

You have the right (after making an appointment with the study department clerk) to inspect your materials relevant to the admission or non-admission decision during the 15-day appeal period at the study department.

Applications for study (including attachments) are not returned to unsuccessful applicants (nor to applicants who have failed the entrance examination), nor are they transferred to another university, they remain in the Faculty’s archives. They will be shredded after the expiration of the archiving period. Delivered materials are not automatically returned – if you wish, they can be collected at the latest one month after a given round of entrance examinations.

Fees for studies are regulated in Section 58 of Act No. 111/1999 Coll., on Universities, as amended. With effect from 1 September 2016, only a student who exceeds the standard period of study of a given study programme by more than one year has to pay tuition fees. The amount of the fee is determined in accordance with the JAMU Statute and published for each academic year on the JAMU website.

Admission to university studies does not automatically entitle the student to accommodation in a JAMU university dormitory.
