Research projects

We not only create art, but also reflect and explore it.

Scientific and research activities have a long tradition at JAMU, which we continue to develop through many activities.

Academic and research staff of JAMU are engaged in research in the field of history and contemporary forms of theatre, music, audiovisual and radio production or artistic pedagogy and publish the results of their research in professional monographs, journal studies or contributions at professional conferences. The results of our research can be found in the database of the Register of Information on Results.

JAMU Publishing House It prepares and publishes around twenty publications a year, including professional monographs, books of reflections and essays, collections of papers from professional conferences, memoirs of important artistic personalities, translations of foreign publications, and scripts and teaching texts. Publications from the JAMU publishing house can be purchased in the JAMU e-shop.

To support its research activities, JAMU has established project competitions, but our employees are also repeatedly successful in grant competitions of the main national agencies – the Grant Agency of the Czech Republic and the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic. With the help of grants from the Grant Agency of the Czech Republic, Monika Holá from the Faculty of Music has been consistently researching Janáček’s speech cues, and Marek Hlavica from the Faculty of Theatre has been researching the history of Czechoslovak television drama production, and a unique project of analysis and documentation of the production of Brno studio theatres led by Professor Josef Kovalčuk has also been implemented with the long-term support of the same agency.

The Research Catalogue (RC) is an open access international online portal managed by the Society for Artistic Research (SAR). It offers solutions for the presentation of results and traditional documentation formats for artistic research.

RC allows artists/researchers to deviate from the standard format of journal articles and research archives while maintaining scientific quality. Audiovisual and other multimedia records are not subordinate to the text, but are on an equal footing with it. RC offers the user a space in which audio, images, video, and text can be combined in an integrated format for presentation, and in which the visual layout and focus on different formats can be decided by the author.

Publishing opportunities are offered by institutional archives as well as selected online journals such as RUUKU, Journal for Sonic Studies, VIS and Journal for Artistic Research. The portal can also be used for archiving research data or presenting doctoral and other theses.

The Research Catalog server is hosted in the IT department of KTH in Stockholm and the software and all data are stored at KTH-Royal Institute of Technology with daily backup procedures.

To create and manage an account on the RC portal, please contact the Janáček Academy RC administrator (see below).
