Course of study

Doctoral studies at the JAMU Faculty of Arts are designed as individual studies focused on independent research, artistic and publishing activities under the guidance of a supervisor. The standard period of study is four years.

The basis of the study is an individual study plan, which is drawn up in cooperation with the supervisor and approved by the departmental board. The study plan combines:

  • independent work on a dissertation project,
  • professional and methodological subjects,
  • pedagogical activities (according to the focus of the programme),
  • publication and presentation activities (conferences, concerts, projects).

Doctoral students are encouraged to actively participate in the professional and artistic life of the faculty, engage in research and creative projects, and develop their ability to critically reflect on their own field. Emphasis is placed on international cooperation, participation in conferences, internships and fellowships.

The study is completed by a state doctoral examination and the defence of the dissertation (or dissertation art project with theoretical reflection). Graduates receive the degree of Ph.D.
