Science and research

Research activities at the Faculty of Music are an integral parallel of artistic creative activities, which are reflected and analysed both from the position of traditional scientific (musicological, art historical) approach and from the perspective of artistic research.

The reflection on the phenomenon of music in its broad contexts, including interdisciplinary overlaps, is intensively developed here, with the emphasis on basic research. Particularly in the field of musicological research, the main scientific as well as social contribution is the presentation of the achieved results to the professional and wider public in the form of published outputs – monographs, studies in professional journals or conference papers subsequently published in proceedings.

The Faculty of Music thus strengthens the general awareness of the value of the Czech and European cultural heritage. Research in another area – music management/music production – contributes significantly to the streamlining of specific processes of music management throughout the country.

Research in the field of composition has numerous overlaps into the field of electroacoustics or audio-engineering, the results of basic research here have considerable application potential (special software, application of theoretical principles from e.g. cybernetics, mathematics, or physics to compositional methods stimulating the creation and public presentation of specific works of art, etc.).

At the Faculty of Music, research in the field of foreign languages (Department of Foreign Languages) is also part of the research, whose scientific and social contribution lies in the production of a number of publications devoted to the application of specific musical and cultural language issues in the context of foreign language environments (AJ, NJ). Increasing attention is then paid to the presentation of the results of artistic research as a full-fledged part of scientific research. Numerous popularization activities are an integral part of the social contribution of science and research at our institution.
