The Faculty of Music of the Janáček Academy of Performing Arts is a place where a long tradition meets a lively present. Since its foundation in 1947, it has been part of JAMU and has been educating outstanding personalities of the Czech and international music scene. The faculty prides itself on the high level of teaching, but at the same time it keeps an eye on where the music profession and artistic education are moving today.
Today, the Faculty of Music is not just a school, but an open space for musical creation, experimentation and the search for new paths. In addition to studying, it offers students the opportunity to engage in artistic, research and interdisciplinary projects that have an overlap with cultural and social events – in Brno, across the country and abroad. International cooperation and exchange of experience are a natural part of the daily functioning of the faculty.
Teaching is led by teachers who are also active artists, musicologists, music managers or experts in pedagogy, psychology or languages. Students thus gain not only technical and performance training, but also a broader professional outlook.
The study is closely connected with concert and festival events. The Faculty organises and co-organises concerts, competitions, masterclasses, workshops and conferences, such as the Leoš Janáček International Competition, International Masterclasses and the Meeting of New Music Plus festival.
The faculty is housed in a neo-Renaissance building on Komenský náměstí in the very centre of Brno. Students have access to high-quality tools, modern technical equipment and an environment that encourages creativity, collaboration and personal growth.
