We are part of the Janáček Academy of Performing Arts, a prestigious art college founded in 1947. The Faculty of Theatre resumed its independent activity in 1990 and since then it has been one of the important centres of higher education in the field of theatre, dramaturgy, stage design, acting, directing and theatre management.
The current dean of the faculty is prof. MgA. Blanka Kolegar.
The main building of the faculty is located in the historical centre of Brno on Mozartova Street. An integral part of the teaching is the student repertory theatre Studio Marta on Bayerova Street. Students and teachers also use the facilities of the Orlí Theatre and the Astorka Information, Teaching and Accommodation Centre on Novobranská Street.
The Faculty of Theatre offers studies in bachelor’s, continuing master’s and four-year master’s degree programmes, which can be entered directly after graduation. The offer also includes a doctoral programme focused on artistic research and theoretical reflection on theatre and performing arts. The degree programmes are designed with an emphasis on the integration of artistic practice, theory and international collaboration and have undergone a new accreditation process in recent years.
Graduates of the Theatre Faculty of JAMU have long shaped the shape of the Czech and European theatre and cultural environment and have applied themselves not only in the artistic, but also in the social and managerial sphere.
