2. Reason and method of establishment
JAMU is a public university of the arts. JAMU is a legal entity established by Act No. 168/1947 Coll., on the establishment of the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Brno.
As the highest level of the education system, universities are the pinnacle of learning, independent knowledge, and creative activity, and play a key role in the scientific, cultural, social, and economic development of society by
- preserving and expanding acquired knowledge and, according to type and focus, cultivating scientific, research, development and innovation, artistic or other creative activities,
- enabling access to higher education, the acquisition of appropriate professional qualifications, and preparation for research work and other demanding professional activities, in accordance with democratic principles,
- providing further education and enabling people to acquire, expand, deepen, or refresh their knowledge in various fields of learning and culture, thereby contributing to lifelong learning,
- playing an active role in public debate on social and ethical issues, in fostering cultural diversity and mutual understanding, in shaping civil society and preparing young people for life in it,
- contributing to development at the national and regional levels and cooperating with various levels of state and local government, with the business and cultural spheres,
- developing international and, in particular, European cooperation as an essential dimension of their activities, supporting joint projects with similar institutions abroad, mutual recognition of studies and diplomas, and exchanges of academic staff and students. The reason for and manner of establishing the mandatory entity, including the conditions and principles under which it operates.
The supervisory authority pursuant to Section 20(5) of Act No. 106/1999 Coll., on Free Access to Information, as amended, is the Office for Personal Data Protection. In administrative proceedings conducted within the framework of state administration, the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports performs the tasks of the superior administrative authority of JAMU pursuant to Section 87 of Act No. 111/1998 Coll., on Higher Education Institutions and on Amendments and Supplements to Other Acts (the Higher Education Act), as amended.

9. Requests for information
Submitting applications in person, by telephone, to the address of the JAMU Rector’s Office, or to one of the filing offices.
10. Admission of applications
Requests or complaints, proposals, suggestions, or other inquiries or decisions regarding the rights and obligations of individuals may be submitted to the relevant faculty in matters concerning one of the faculties, or otherwise to the JAMU Rector’s Office. See above for addresses and contact details.
11. Corrective appeals
An appeal against a decision by the dean of one of the faculties regarding non-admission to study or the rights and obligations of a student, with the exception of decisions on the assessment of fees associated with study, may be lodged with the rector of JAMU through the dean of the relevant faculty; in this case, the place for lodging the appeal is the relevant faculty.
The appeal must clearly state who is filing it (first name, last name, date of birth, and permanent address), which decision or procedure it is directed against, to what extent it is contested, and in what way it is considered to be contrary to legal regulations or incorrect in terms of the decision or procedure that preceded it, or the procedure itself, and what the applicant is requesting or seeking. The appeal must include the name of the administrative authority to which it is addressed and the signature of the person filing it.
An appeal against the vice-rector’s decision on the assessment of study fees may be lodged with the rector of JAMU through the relevant vice-rector; in this case, the place for filing the appeal is the Rector’s Office.
The appeal period is 30 days from the notification of the decision.
The candidate may file objections to the procedure in the habilitation procedure and the procedure for appointment as a professor within 30 days. If the dean does not grant the objections, he or she shall forward them to the rector for a decision; the rector’s decision is final.
There are no binding forms for filing appeals.

15. Fees for providing information
In connection with the provision of information, JAMU is entitled to request payment in an amount that may not exceed the costs associated with searching for information, making copies, procuring technical data carriers, and sending the information to the applicant.
The following price list applies to the reimbursement of costs associated with the provision of information (prices are listed without VAT; VAT will be added at the statutory rate):

Costs associated with the acquisition of data carriers according to the acquisition costs of the carrier.
Personnel costs, if the time spent processing and searching for information exceeds one hour, at a rate of CZK 250 for each hour or part thereof.
The total payment is determined by the sum of the individual costs listed above.

No license agreements pursuant to Section 14a of Act No. 106/1999 Coll. are required for providing information by JAMU.
