JAMU Development projects

Czech universities also have the opportunity to draw on financial support from EU funds. Between 2004 and 2006, they were able to take advantage of the Human Resources Development Operational Program, which focused in one of its areas on supporting the improvement of university education, the development of teacher training programs, continuing education, and human resources in science and research. At that time, the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts received support for three university-wide projects and also became a partner in two projects implemented by other universities. Furthermore, JAMU actively participated in projects within the Operational Program Education for Competitiveness, implemented five projects of the Operational Program Research, Development and Education, and is currently implementing, among other things, the first project submitted under the Operational Program Jan Amos Komenský. In the latter OP JAK program, three new project applications are in preparation, with implementation expected to begin in 2025.

Ongoing projects

Reg. no.: CZ.02.01.01/00/22_012/0007661

The aim of the project is to improve the facilities for doctoral students so that they can fully devote themselves to their educational, research, artistic, teaching, and publishing activities at the highest level, without having to rely on their own equipment or other entities.

The implementation of the project will enable the fundamental development of DSP students in the field of their studies and research. The acquisition of new technologies, adequately equipped premises, musical instruments, and new professional literature will offer further opportunities for DSP students to explore and realize their potential.

Thanks to this support, we expect to improve the quality of study within our DSP, which will undoubtedly also result in greater interest from applicants for study, even on an international scale of art universities, with which we must keep pace.

The main objective of the project is to purchase equipment and technology, including related construction modifications, between 2025 and 2028, leading to an increase in the quality of education and safety for students at JAMU, with a focus on the development and innovation of infrastructure facilities.

The project focuses on several key areas with the aim of improving the quality of teaching and school safety. The latest technological and instrumental equipment will be purchased, enabling students to familiarize themselves with current global trends and improving the learning environment. In addition, state-of-the-art technology will be purchased and selected classrooms will be renovated. Equipment for arts education will be modernized. Digital infrastructure and the library system will be secured, safety will be increased, and orientation within the school premises will be facilitated.

The aim of the project is to make study spaces accessible to all students interested in studying at JAMU, i.e. both talented students and students with specific needs, thereby contributing to a higher level of equal access to education.

The project plans to implement a school-wide activity, namely the creation of an orientation system for JAMU buildings, which will include Braille signage, enabling blind and visually impaired people to find their way around independently. As part of the activities carried out by the Faculty of Music, there are plans to purchase equipment and make spaces accessible for students with specific needs, and talented and gifted students will be supported through the purchase of state-of-the-art equipment.

Reg. no.: CZ.02.02.02/00/23_022/0008595

The aim of the project is to improve the quality of education at JAMU through strategic management, professional development of employees, support for students’ mental health, and strengthening internationalization. This approach will lead to more effective management of the institution.

The significance of the project lies mainly in the area of improving the quality of education with a focus on increasing the qualifications of academic and non-academic staff. Furthermore, existing study programs will be innovated and new ones created, including foreign-language versions, improving student wellbeing, expanding and deepening cooperation with conservatories and arts-focused high schools, especially in the context of working with prospective students. An integral part of the project is also improving strategic management.

The National Recovery Plan (NRP) is seen as an opportunity for the development of the Czech Republic. The plan itself was created in response to the crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and its significant impacts, and is a tool that will bring up to EUR 7 billion to the Czech Republic. However, these funds have their limits, especially in terms of time, as the implementation of reforms and investments from the NRP must be completed by 2026 at the latest.

JAMU first participated in a call announced by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports as part of reform 3.2.1 Transform universities with the aim of adapting to new forms of learning and responding to the changing needs of the labor market. The project responds to advances in new technologies and working with them. It focuses on two major areas (A and C). In 2024, it also joined a call under component 7.4 Support for green skills and sustainability at universities (see below).

Specific objective (referred to as SO) A – Transformation of the form and content of higher education is divided into four sub-parts:

SO A1 – Digitization of educational activities and study agendas focuses on online teaching, whether in-person or distance learning, which needs to be adapted to current trends in order to improve its quality. Emphasis is placed on working with recordings and transmissions of students’ artistic works or performances. SO A1 aims to provide the necessary hardware and software equipment across JAMU with the expansion of the PC network and relevant information systems.

SO A2 – Development in the area of distance learning, online teaching, and blended learning builds on SO A1 and aims to incorporate new technologies into teaching, i.e., to equip not only students but also academic staff and professional employees with high IT literacy through methodological support.

SO A3 – Creation of a new professionally oriented study program aims to create a new bachelor’s degree program called Pedagogy of Piano Playing, which will focus on the specifics of teaching oriented towards practice with an emphasis on distance learning. It will be intended primarily for future teachers at elementary arts schools.

SO A4 – Courses focused on upskilling or reskilling are an essential part of acquiring and mastering skills in the field of new technologies. The course responds primarily to the online environment in which graduates of art colleges must be able to promote themselves, e.g., through self-tapes, streaming, self-promotion on social networks, etc. As part of SO A4, a lifelong learning course will be created that will focus on the above and thus help its graduates to improve their existing qualifications in order to compete in the labor market. It will take the form of blended learning.

Specific objective C is a joint project of 26 universities, including JAMU. Its aim is to:

  1. improving the accessibility of higher education through micro-certificates and the digitization of activities related to the provision of educational activities and administrative tasks associated with the study agenda (SO C1);
  2. systematic assurance of comprehensive security for distance learning (SO C2);
  3. digitization of activities directly related to the provision of educational activities and administrative tasks associated with the study agenda (SO C3).
