Habilitation and appointment procedure

Accreditation

JAMU is accredited to conduct habilitation proceedings and proceedings for appointment as professor in the fields of Dramatic Arts and Musical Arts.

The habilitation procedure and the procedure for appointment as professor are governed by the Rules of the Habilitation Procedure and the Procedure for Appointment as Professor (.pdf) valid from November 27, 2024.

The habilitation procedure verifies the artistic or scientific qualifications of the candidate and their teaching ability.

The artistic or scientific qualifications of applicants are verified primarily on the basis of their habilitation thesis and its defense, as well as other scientific, professional, or artistic works.

Habilitation thesis means

  1. a work of art or artistic performance or a collection thereof, such as outstanding public artistic activity,
  2. written work that brings new scientific knowledge in the field of arts education,
  3. a collection of published scientific works in the field of arts education, supplemented with commentary, or
  4. A printed monograph presenting new scientific findings in the field of arts education.

Proceedings

The habilitation procedure is initiated at the candidate’s request. The request is submitted in writing to the dean of the faculty that is accredited for the given field of habilitation.

The fee for services related to the habilitation procedure is 13.000,- CZK.

In the procedure for appointment as professor, the pedagogical and scientific or artistic qualifications of the candidate, who is a distinguished and recognized artistic or scientific figure in his or her field, are demonstrated.

Applicants shall demonstrate their teaching qualifications by providing evidence of their successful and conceptual teaching activities at a university, in particular by

  1. played a significant role in creating study programs and their specializations,
  2. supervised and assessed master’s theses and performances as an opponent,
  3. has been or is a supervisor of doctoral students,
  4. is the author of educational texts (especially textbooks, lecture notes, manuals, and e-learning materials).

Artistic or scientific qualifications shall be demonstrated by applicants who are appointed as associate professors and can document their own significant artistic or scientific activity, such as

  1. a collection of significant works of art or performances and their written, audiovisual, audio, or image recordings,
  2. a collection of book publications or published professional studies accompanied by unifying commentary,
  3. reviews of artistic or scientific works (especially studies and reviews in specialist and daily press, dictionary entries, profiles),
  4. information on the awarding of artistic, professional, and scientific grants,
  5. information about lectures or creative workshops at other universities or abroad,
  6. information on active participation in conferences, symposia, and other professional meetings at home and abroad,
  7. information about membership in important artistic and scientific institutions, organizations, societies, etc., both at home and abroad,
  8. information on service to the academic community, in particular on activities in the bodies of higher education institutions and their constituent parts and in the doctoral study program council,
  9. information on popularization activities in the field of art or science.

A proposal to initiate proceedings for appointment as professor shall be submitted to the faculty’s artistic council, which is accredited for the field of appointment. The proposal may be submitted by:

  1. candidate supported by at least two written statements from professors in the same or a related field,
  2. dean, or
  3. rector.

The faculty’s artistic council may also initiate the procedure for appointing a professor on its own initiative.

The fee for services related to the procedure for appointment as a professor is 20.000,- CZK.
